31 Days-Caused to Remember

31 Days WRITE -Caused 2Three days after the solemn beauty & comfort of Remembrance Day we awoke to face the horror of  terrorist attacks on Paris.

Memories of 9/11 overwhelmed our thoughts & emotions.

Once again I was  glued to the news channels. I looked for answers.

Words from Psalm 111:4 & Psalm 107:1,43 exploded into my spirit.

He Causes Us to Remember His Wonderful Works

Give Thanks To The Lord For He Is Good

Be Wise, Take This To Heart

See In Your History

The Faithful Love of God

Psalm 107 is a psalm that tells the story of exile, hunger, thirst, battles, rebellion, storms, shipwrecks & yes- terrorism.

Psalm 107  is a psalm of redemption.

Psalm 107  is the story of those who saw God’s hand- God’s faithfulness in the middle of tragedy.

Psalm 107  is the story of those who didn’t see.

Psalm 107 opens the way to

  • a place of safety
  • a place where we can dwell
  • a place of Presence & Peace  in an uncertain world

A Little Girl’s Story

Remebrance 3

I am a child of the 1940’s.

Mine was the last  Canadian generation to have  parents, grandparents, aunts & uncles directly involved in major wars.

World War I and II shaped them.

World War II shaped the future generations.

World War I & World War II shaped me.

Did my grandfather’s service  in World War I cause him to emigrate  to Canada in 1926 ?

What struggles did the family (3 sons & a daughter) endure?  Why Edmonton? Why not Victoria or Vancouver or Halifax?

I remember the many  cold November 11 journeys  to the Edmonton cenotaph with my grandfather.

I remember the story of  a POW guard who brought candy & cigarettes to young German prisoners in the hope that his sons would be treated kindly if  similarly captured.

I remember my grandfather.   I remember his goodness. I remember his delight in small things.

I remember his steadfast love of his granddaughter.

I remember his legacy of words;

I remember his gift of telling a story.

I remember his faith. On the morning he  passed through heaven’s gates he sat at the piano & played the old hymn Crossing the Bar.

I remember my grandfather coming back into the house to give me one more hug

I remember the phone call  telling of the massive heart attack that took Robert Jeffels  into the arms of Jesus.

His Story Has Formed Mine

 In My History

I See The Faithful Love of God

Acts 17:26-27 says :

From one man he made every nation of men, that they should inhabit the whole earth.

He determined the times set for them & the exact places where they should live.

God did this so that men would seek him & perhaps reach out for him & find him though he is not far from each one of us.

For in him we live and move and have our being. We are his offspring.
