Five Minute Friday was started by Lisa Jo Baker four years ago.
Here’s The Skinny
Then they post their writing and connect on Twitter at #FMFParty
No extreme editing; no worrying about perfect grammar, font, or punctuation is allowed.
Very scary! Unscripted. Unedited. Real.
It started because Lisa Jo had been thinking about writing & how often our perfectionism gets in the way of our words. She figured, why not take five minutes and see what comes out: not a perfect post, not a profound post, just five minutes of focused writing. So now on Fridays a group of people who love to throw caution to the wind & just write without worrying if it’s just right gather to share what five minutes buys them. Just five minutes.
Throwing Caution To The Wind
It feels a little vulnerable but I decided to jump out of my performance & perfectionism cage . I decided to jump into the world of Five Minute Friday.
The word for this week is fight.
I find that quite comical. In setting the timer to write my five minutes worth of words the excuses running through my busy brain were legendary.
I pushed through & you see my first effort. Here goes………
Fight is such a negative word. It implies all kinds of bad behaviour and nasty personalities. Especially for girls.
But the Word of God says we are to fight.
Faith is a fight.
There is a real Enemy that we have to actively battle. This Enemy creates all kinds of nasty strongholds in our lives; houses of thoughts one translation calls them.
In fact most of our fights are against what goes on between our two ears.
Paul desired nothing more said about him then that he fought the good fight, he had finished the race he was called to race and he kept the faith.
My favorite scripture about fighting is :
Do not be afraid. Stand firm and you will see the deliverance the Lord will bring you today. The Egyptians you see today you will never see again. The Lord will fight for you. You need only to be still. Exodus 14: 13-14
What About You
A dear friend called Dot gave me this verse twenty-three years ago at a time when there was a battle, a vicious fight for the very life of one of our children. We had tried every worldly option & they made no difference.
My husband & I learned to fight by being still & watching. It was the genesis of our life call & ministry.
As we move through 2014 I will tell you the rest of the story.
What is your fight in this first month of 2014 ?
Now, I’m going to be brave & post My Fight to the rest of the world. Talk to you later. I want to hear about yours!!
