God With Us

His Name is Immanuel- God with Us.

Christmas is over for another year. If your house is anything like mine the cards & ornaments have lost their appeal. You’ve probably taken down the tree & are struggling to find a place for all the gifts you received. In our part of the world the days are short & still very cold. I’m glad that the Christmas poinsettia is still in full bloom. The red adds something special to my family room.

For me the best part of this season was  deep reflection on the Christmas story as I wrote the Advent posts. From your responses, I heard  that the Scriptures impacted many of you as well. We are going to continue those reflections until New Years Day . If you take the time to check in each day I believe you will begin 2014 with  joyous anticipation instead of grim resolution.

Jesus promised his  disciples that He would not leave them as orphans. He promised that He would come to them. He promised that He would be with them forever. He promised to save them, rescue them, restore them not just in the future but in the now of life.

For that to be our reality we need to understand the implication of the names given Jesus in Isaiah 9:6. They were given in a unique order that is  meaningful. We will look at each one in turn & there will be an accompanying music video.

He Will Be Called

  • Wonderful Counsellor
  • Mighty God
  • Everlasting Father
  • Prince of Peace

Wynonna Judd had an incredibly difficult life including never knowing her birth father. She has struggled with both fame & rejection. She knows the battle of addictions & self-hatred.

Her song I Can Only Imagine touched my heart & I pray it touches yours. Enjoy!

  1. Once again Linda, profound and very touching. On Christmas morning the same words came to me as I sent my Christmas message to a few close colleagues. Wonderful counsellor, Prince of peace, Everlasting Father, Mighty God. Even though we walk daily with The Lord, we can only imagine what it will be like when we see Him face to face on that glorious day. Thanks for sharing that beautiful rendition of the song.
