U for Uncaged

Masterpiece

What keeps us caged, prevented from becoming all that we were designed to be & do? Today’s verse from Ephesians can be both encouraging & a little embarrassing .

Ephesians 2:10 says
For we are God’s masterpiece . He has created us anew in Jesus so that we can do the good things he planned for us long ago .

My husband when teaching would often have folks say to the person next to them “ I am God’s Masterpiece or I am the pinnacle of God’s creation.” There were often embarrassed giggles .

I could rarely get these words out of my mouth yet  I was the teacher that taught about design & destiny.  Something stopped me from seeing myself as a masterpiece of God’s design.

What stops us from embracing the truth that God planned the exact place & time of our conception?

Why do we miss understanding the thousand generations of blessing that were poured into that little egg & little sperm that joined together to form you, to form me?

What keeps us caged; looking out on life  instead of living with peace, passion & purpose?

I believe there are four things that keep us caged.

Overwhelm

The problem with life is that it is just too daily.

We looked at making choices in the midst of busy lives in  O for Opportunity & Moses:Weary Superhero.  Take time to check out these two practical posts.

Bad Things

Either directly or indirectly all of us have experienced painful experiences. It could be the trauma of abuse, natural disaster, illness, death or loss. Tragedy has happened to you or to a member of your family or to your neighbourhood, or city or country.

We live in a world where Bad Things Happen to Good People. These bad things can have devastating & long term consequences on how we do life. The good news about the bad news  is that there is healing in the Cross.

The what & how of the healing journey is beyond the scope of this post. We will be looking at it in a future series.

For now listen to what He says

Psalm 56:8  I  keep track of all your sorrows. I collect all your tears in a bottle. I record each one in my  book.

Psalm 34:18  I am close to you  brokenhearted one.   I am rescuing you. I know you are crushed in spirit.

Good Things We Didn’t Get

People NeedThe image lists the good things we should have received when growing up.

We are meant to receive
◦    Encouragement
◦    Affirmation
◦    Protection
◦    Cherishing
◦    Value
◦    Worth
◦    Discipline
◦    Safety to fail

God intends us to receive these vital elements  from our family, friends  & community.

The good things you didn’t receive cause more damage then the bad things that happened to you.

The lack of these good things coupled with the trauma of the bad things keeps you caged.

The lack separates you from God, others & yourself.

Paralysing Statements

Paralysing Statements

The post Paralysing Statements was one of the first posts I wrote for this blog.

Paralysing Statements are statements that we believe about ourselves  that keep us from moving forward or dealing with what is behind us .  They  keep us caged & ineffective in the present. They can apply  to any area of our life.

Paralysing Statements are lies used by the Accuser to stop us in our tracks.  The lies keep us caged; keep us unable to live in peace, passion & purpose.  You can read more about the power of lies in R for Roots.

Paralysing Statements are rooted in
◦    The Overwhelm of Life
◦    The Bad Things thatHappened to Us
◦    The Good Things that We Missed

What Are Your Top Three Paralysing Statements?

What Is The Truth About You?

Psalm 139

O Lord, you have examined my heart and know everything about me.

You know when I sit down or stand up.You know my thoughts even when I’m far away.

You see me when I travel and when I rest at home. You know everything I do.

You know what I am going to say even before I say it, Lord.

You go before me and follow me. You place your hand of blessing on my head.

Such knowledge is too wonderful for me, too great for me to understand!

I can never escape from your Spirit!  I can never get away from your presence!

Wherever I am  your hand will guide me and your strength will support me.

I could ask the darkness to hide me and the light around me to become night— but even in darkness I cannot hide from you.

You made all the delicate, inner parts of my body and knit me together in my mother’s womb.

Thank you for making me so wonderfully complex! Your workmanship is marvelous—how well I know it.

You watched me as I was being formed in utter seclusion, as I was woven together in the dark of the womb.

You saw me before I was born.

Every day of my life was recorded in your book. Every moment was laid out  before a single day had passed.

How precious are your thoughts about me, O God. They cannot be numbered!  I can’t even count them;  they outnumber the grains of sand!

When I wake up, you are still with me!

Your Turn

The post T for Trust ended with these thoughts.
